While the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament gathered some of the most recognized seniors in the NCAA system, many other talents are still waiting for their moment to shine. The situation has been further complicated by the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the new eligibility rules, with a potential ‘fifth year’ option that could shift plans for several prospects. In this month’s report, we look at a dozen underrated names who could be on the radar of European clubs in the coming weeks.
Pavia rule, it’s a fact. House rule is still coming.
To understand the current rookie market, context is everything.
Since the introduction of NIL, the NCAA landscape has been rapidly evolving. After several lawsuits filed by student-athletes seeking financial rights, the first major change came in December 2024 with the Pavia rule, expanding eligibility windows for players coming from JuCo and NAIA.
Now, the ongoing House vs. NCAA case could push things even further: it involves a $2.8 billion settlement and the potential recognition of a fifth year of eligibility for all student-athletes.
The result? Hundreds of players who were expected to graduate are now staying in the Transfer Portal, waiting to see if they’ll be allowed one more year – and collect one more NIL check, often worth more than a rookie contract overseas
Who’s really available?
In a landscape where NCAA rules and legal disputes are constantly shifting, it’s not easy to identify who’s truly set to go pro. Between eligibility extensions and NIL opportunities, many players are still navigating their next move.
This list offers a filtered selection of 12 underrated talents – all graduate players, all likely to start their professional careers overseas in the coming months.
Selected by me and my staff based on extensive scouting and contextual analysis, they represent a valuable pool for clubs in mid-tier leagues aiming to find rotation-ready prospects with potential to grow into higher levels.
