INTRODUCTION
Corey McKeithan has made an immediate impact at La Salle as a graduate transfer from Rider University. With the Broncs, he became a key player in the starting five last season, being the second-most utilized player while always supporting the star Mervin James. Now with the Explorers, McKeithan has demonstrated his scoring ability with standout performances, including a new career-high of 28 points against Temple in the local battle of Philadelphia. What seemed like untapped talent is now fully embracing the legacy of Khalil Brantley.
PHYSICAL
Corey McKeithan may not have a great size but can rely on solid athleticism and a compact build. His quickness and agility on the court make him a dynamic player who is constantly moving. His lateral speed is a strong asset along with his reactivity and quick hands. However, his lack of elite size does not allow him to absorb physical contact as effectively, and he may struggle against more structured and stronger opponents. Despite this, his high motor and endurance allow him to maintain intensity throughout the game, compensating for his physical limitations.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Corey McKeithan is a versatile scorer at three levels, with the ability to attack the basket and convert lay-ups or floaters in traffic. His pull-up mid-range jumper is reliable, and he has shown the capability to knock down three-pointers. At Rider, he didn’t have a high usage and could play off the ball, but in the first 10 games with La Salle, he showcased a well-different management: double the shots taken and a three-point shooting percentage that currently makes him a difficult player to limit (41.3% on 6.3 attempts compared to 35.1% on 2.9 at the Broncs). McKeithan excels in transition, where his speed and court vision enable him to create opportunities for himself and teammates (3.3 assists per game last season). As a passer, he is adept at finding open shooters and facilitating pick-and-roll actions. However, his decision-making under pressure can be erratic at times, leading to turnovers, but his assist/turnover ratio is quite solid (+1.9 for his career).
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Corey McKeithan uses his quickness to put strong pressure on the ball. He has good timing for anticipating plays and causing steals (1.1 last season). He excels as a guard on the perimeter, using his lateral agility and active hands to pressure opposing opponents. McKeithan’s energy on this end also contributes to his team’s defensive schemes, whether in man-to-man or zone setups. However, his size can limit his effectiveness against larger guards, and he struggles to contest effectively in the paint.
