Weekly Scouting Update – 04

October is heating up across Europe. Rookies are settling into their roles, early-season trends are emerging, and a few under-the-radar names are already becoming key pieces for their teams. This week’s scouting update highlights some of the most consistent performers and new faces making an impact across multiple leagues.

Rookie Team of the Week

  • KHALIL BRANTLEY – KK Tamis Pancevo (SRB) – 14 pts, 8/8 FT, 9 rbs, 5 ass, 8 frv – 26 index
  • JALEN BLACKMON – Hubo Limburg (BNXT) – 34 pts, 9/11 2-P, 3/4 3-P, 7/8 FT, 5 ass, 9 frv – 40 index
  • TONY PERKINS – Nevezis Kedainiai (LIT) – 36 pts, 10/14 2-P, 2/3 3-P, 10/11 FT, 5 rbs, 4 ass – 40 index
  • ASHTON SHERRELL – Amicale Steinsel (LUX) – 30 pts, 11/16 2-P, 8/8 FT, 16 rbs, 2 blk – 46 index
  • EFTON REID – Lapuan Kobrat (FIN) – 21 pts, 7/13 2-P, 13 rbs, 4 ass – 33 index
  • CLI’RON HORNBEAK – KKS Rzeszow (POL) – 14 pts, 8/9 FT, 12 rbs, 7 frv, 2 blk – 29 index

Beyond the Boxscore

This week’s rookies didn’t just fill the boxscore, they led their teams to wins. Jalen Blackmon once again headlines the update after another outstanding performance in the BNXT League. Against Leuven, he was nearly flawless, improving his season-high index and confirming his status as the league’s top scorer. In Lithuania, Tony Perkins matched that level of impact. The Nevezis guard delivered an MVP-worthy showing to secure the team’s second win, and after six rounds he already ranks among the most efficient scorers in the LKL. Meanwhile, Khalil Brantley continues to power Tamis Pancevo’s unbeaten start in Serbia, combining energy, control, and relentless tempo in another all-around effort.

Among frontcourt players, several bigs made strong statements. Efton Reid finally pushed Lapuan Kobrat to their first win, asserting himself in the paint on both ends. At the same time, Cli’Ron Hornbeak produced his second straight double-double, confirming his consistency in a Polish league that always reveals intriguing rookies. To close the week, Ashton Sherrell – first highlighted in our Available Players List for subscribers – posted the highest index overall. The Luxembourg league keeps gaining credibility, and performances like his show why more American rookies are choosing it as a launch pad.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Two notable absences from this week’s lineup deserve recognition: Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Kevin Kalu. Both were already featured in earlier editions, and remain among the most productive rookies in Europe. Huntley-Hatfield continues to look like a mismatch in the Cypriot league (21 pts, 16 reb, 38 index), while Kalu anchored Brno’s victory with 24 points and 11 boards for 36 index.

Their omission this week is purely editorial: our goal is to spotlight as many deserving rookies as possible throughout the season.

Scouting Radar

Rim protection and defensive reliability are still key assets for frontcourt players looking to climb the European ladder. This Radar focuses on big men who impact the game defensively in different ways: from high-potential shot blockers to experienced anchors able to dominate the glass and control the paint.

Ready to the Top – Kalib Boone

Elitzur Netanya (ISR) – 206 cm – [READ THE PROFILE]

After a winning rookie season in Finland where he led his team to the Korisliiga title, Boone proved to be an elite rim protector with a 7.3% BLK and a 95.4 DTrg, clear signs of his intimidation presence. Strong rebounding numbers (22.6% DRB, 11.2% ORB) with room for growth, and solid finishing efficiency with a 63.8 TS%. His move to the Winner League will be a key test to confirm consistency and raise his profile.

Our Take: If he maintains the same defensive impact in Israel, he’s a Top-5 league prospect, ready for an organization competing in continental cups with real ambitions.

Top 10 Material – Jayveous McKinnis

AEK Petrolina Larnaca (CYP) – 201 cm – [READ THE PROFILE]

With a 92.7 DTrg across the last two seasons, McKinnis has shown that his defensive influence goes beyond the level of competition. After leading Bashkimi to a historic Finals run in Kosovo, he’s back in Cyprus to add international experience. Not the most explosive shot blocker (5.3% BLK), but his rebounding presence is elite: 27.5% DRB and 15.9% ORB, and he provides a reliable interior presence. Limited shooting range but plays above the rim and finishes efficiently (64% TS).

Our Take: In the right context – ideally paired with a stretch four – he can follow a trajectory similar to Pauly Paulicap. A Top-10 European league target if he keeps his defensive standards and rebounding output for another season.

Reliable Force – Will McNair

Yalovaspor (TUR) – 213 cm – [READ THE PROFILE]

Heading into his second season in Turkey, McNair is projecting another year averaging a double-double. A physically dominant big who clears space on the glass (28.1% DRB) and provides a steady rim presence (5.3% BLK). Despite limited mobility for modern switching schemes, his 106.3 DTrg remains solid, after posting a 94.1 average in college. Offensively, he’s shown flashes from three (30.6% on 1.2 attempts) while remaining a dependable finisher (60.2 TS%).

Our Take: Brings size and reliability, not the upside of a top-tier player but can become a valuable piece for competitive leagues like Lithuania, Poland, or Hungary, an Austin Wiley-type presence in mid-level contexts.

Free Agent – Brison Gresham

No Team – 206 cm – [READ THE PROFILE]

After a couple of seasons in Cyprus, Gresham had opportunities in France with Le Portel, where he proved himself as a solid backup big. Returning to Larnaca, he won everything domestically despite a season limited by injury, still posting an impressive 93.5 DTrg in 21 games. A strong rim protector (6.9% BLK) and high-energy rebounder (24% DRB, 17.7% ORB), though foul management remains an issue (3.2 in 21 minutes per game in the FIBA Europe Cup last year).

Our Take: A proven defensive impact player for mid-level leagues, capable of being a valuable rotational piece or backup at higher tiers thanks to his athleticism and energy.
