POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Jack Forrest started at Columbia but transferred to St. Joseph’s after his freshman year. He struggled to find consistency and after two years, he moved to Bucknell where he secured a spot in the starting five and the role of a leader after Xander Rice‘s departure. In his senior year, he achieved his high careers in points, rebounds and assists and was named to the first team of the Patriot League.
PHYSICAL
Jack Forrest possesses solid physical attributes for a swingman who can play guard or forward. Not an elite athlete, but he has a good understanding of the game and balances well when to use physical matchups. He has good lateral mobility, is quite reactive, and has quick hands which, combined with a good sense of positioning, compensate for the lack of verticality.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Jack Forrest is a more versatile scorer than one might think. His three-point shooting (37.1% on 7.1 attempts) in catch-and-shoot situations is his main asset, but he has many weapons at his disposal. He is adept at beating close-outs in one-on-one situations, using his body to protect the ball and drive to the basket. While he has a decent mid-range shot, his ability to finish around the rim can be inconsistent, particularly against longer, more athletic defenders. His ball-handling is somewhat limited, which makes it challenging for him to consistently create his own shot off the dribble. He moves well off-the-ball and has good timing on cuts, but there is room for improvement in playmaking and possession management.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Jack Forrest’s frame allows him to be a versatile defender, capable of guarding multiple positions. His lateral quickness and understanding of defensive positioning allow him to stay in front of his man, while his strength enables him to battle in the post when necessary. He sometimes struggles against quicker guards, where his lateral agility can be tested. His reactivity and ability to position himself help him to be a good presence on the boards (5.2 per game in his last season) and overall he proves to be a fairly reliable team defender despite not being a specialist.
IMPROVED AREAS
Jack Forrest is a potential ideal team player to be included in a medium-high level context. With less responsibility in managing possessions and having to create a shot on his own, he can enhance his qualities as a three-point shooter. He needs to work on taking a step forward in terms of playmaking and athleticism to become a more reliable player. For his rookie season, he signed with Lavrio in Greece.
