INTRODUCTION: Tolu Smith is an old-school center. His game is classic for a body like his. Equipped with great physical prowess, he can easily make space for himself in the area. He is an excellent rebounder both offensively and defensively (8.1 total average). His main skill is his post play although he still needs to improve in some aspects such as his starting position. He shoots with an excellent 60% even if already from 3-4 meters from the basket he is no longer a significant offensive factor. This characteristic is highlighted by a poor 57% on free throws. In 4 seasons in college he never attempted a 3-point shot. Another weak point is his rim protect. Only 0.4 blocks on average for a nearly 7-footer is very low. His physique should allow him a greater propensity for this fundamental even if he is not gifted with great athleticism. However, the player has a good vision of the game and what is happening around him. He has some difficulty with prolonged dribbling and turnovers (2.7). Tolu Smith remains undoubtedly one of the best pure centers in Division I. In 2023 he was selected to the AP All-SEC First Team.
