INTRODUCTION
Kevin Kalu spent his entire NCAA career with the UTEP Miners. After two seasons coming off the bench, he moved into the starting lineup, collecting 62 career starts. He combines strong physical tools and athleticism, offering the profile of a modern center. Kalu is powerful enough to absorb contact and set solid screens, while also being mobile and able to run the floor effectively.
Offensively, Kalu is a reliable finisher around the basket, converting 60.8% of his 2-P attempts on 4.9 shots per game. He moves well off the ball, finding opportunities through cuts and rolls to the rim, and can score with a soft touch in post-up situations. His shooting range is limited, but a notable improvement at the free-throw line (from 46.6% to 67.4%) suggests ongoing development.
Defensively, Kalu served as an anchor for UTEP with his ability to provide help defense and secure rebounds. He averaged 5.7 boards in 22 minutes per game, showing consistency on the glass. His strong frame allows him to hold his ground in the paint and defend opposing big men in post-up or static situations. While he has decent lateral mobility, he can struggle on the perimeter against quicker guards and forwards, often leading to foul trouble.
Overall, Kevin Kalu projects as a solid frontcourt option who can immediately provide physicality and stability in mid-level European leagues. If he secures a Cotonou passport, his value could increase significantly, giving him the potential to become a reliable backup in top countries such as Spain or France.
