INTRODUCTION
Jaylen Bernard spent his college career playing alongside some of the most productive Division II scorers in recent years: first with Michael Mays at King University and later with Jordan Hinds at Bluefield State. Serving primarily as a complementary piece and team-first contributor, Bernard helped lead his teams to significant achievements, including a CIAA Championship Final appearance and qualification for the 2025 NCAA Division-II Tournament.
Jaylen Bernard is a versatile, athletic forward with good length and mobility, making him an effective off-the-ball presence. He runs the floor well in transition and shows excellent timing on his cuts to the basket, often finishing efficiently around the rim (50.6% on 2-point FG as a senior). While not a primary handler, his ability to attack off movement adds value in secondary actions. However, ball-handling and decision-making remain areas for development, as occasional turnovers can arise when he’s forced to create in tight spaces. From beyond the arc, Bernard showed flashes of efficiency in previous seasons, most notably shooting 32.8% on 4.1 attempts per game, but experienced a significant drop in volume and accuracy during his final year (23.4% on 1.5 3PA). His mechanics remain solid, particularly in catch-and-shoot scenarios, and returning to greater consistency from deep will be key to unlocking his offensive ceiling.
Defensively, Bernard has the tools to impact the game at a high level. With lateral quickness, a strong motor, and active hands, he can switch onto multiple positions and defend the perimeter effectively, even against skilled or crafty scorers. He provides reliable on-ball coverage and uses his combination of size and athleticism well on rotations. There’s still room to improve his anticipation in passing lanes, but he consistently brings energy and effort on the defensive end.
Jaylen Bernard projects as a high-level 3&D prospect with translatable tools for the European game. His athleticism, team-oriented mindset, and defensive versatility make him an ideal fit for entry-level professional leagues or as a developmental piece in lower-tier competitions. If he regains shooting consistency from beyond the arc, he has the potential to take a meaningful step forward within one or two seasons.
