ACTUAL
POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Seneca Knight after two seasons at San Jose State in which he also earned a nomination to the Mountain West All-Conference third team, he moved to BYU where he did not find a central role on the team. For his last year of college, he went to Illinois State where he returned to play over 30 minutes per game and in double figures in terms of points scored. His professional career will begin in Latvia, as he signed with Valmiera.
PHYSICAL
Seneca Knight possesses athletic ability and a well-structured body, able to absorb contact near the glass thanks to his good coordination, which helps him execute some and-1 plays. He runs well around the court and showcases interesting lateral mobility, along with a decent wingspan, making him a physically solid athlete with sufficient size to play in at least three positions, enhancing his versatility in every part of the floor.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Seneca Knight excels at moving off the ball, especially in cuts. He has good timing that allows him to go to the rim where he can still absorb physical contact with opposing big men. He is quite complete, being able to create a shot from the dribble or go low post against lighter opponents, but he also has an educated hand as a shooter from beyond the arc (39.6% on 3 attempts per match) in spot-up situations. While he beats close-outs well with mid-range shots, he needs to be more careful as a handler since he loses too many possessions with superficial initiative (2.2 turnovers per match). He doesn’t have great reads but is decent in terms of playmaking, making him a sufficient facilitator when it comes to involving teammates (1.4 assists).
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Seneca Knight possesses intriguing tools that allow him to impact his own half, capable of defending at least four positions. His physical stature and mobility make him valuable in a defense that adapts to various situations. He demonstrates a strong presence in rebounding (5.9 in his last season) and in individual coverage; however, he has shown difficulties in team defense, particularly in rotations and understanding certain game scenarios, which sometimes led him to give opponents space for easy open shots.
IMPROVED AREAS
Overall, Seneca Knight doesn’t seem to have great limitations, knowing how to do almost everything well despite lacking a significant natural talent; being more focused on offensive possessions and limiting turnovers, while being consistent and attentive in defensive discipline, can give him a medium-good European level like 3&D.
