POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Miles Norris recruited by Oregon but after his freshman year and a season-long halt due to the pandemic, he moved closer to home, donning the Gauchos jersey where he gained increasing prominence to become one of the team’s leaders that triumphed in the Big West of 2023, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. After two years of special mentions, he was named to the Second Team of the Conference.
PHYSICAL
Miles Norris is an athletic player with a decent wingspan and good lateral mobility. Runs the field very well and becomes difficult for opponents to contain in transition or counterattack situations. Not particularly physical, he can struggle in static or contact situations with heavier rivals. He has sufficient elevation but can improve significantly in terms of reactivity.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Miles Norris can really spread the floor thanks to a particularly effective spot-up shot (39.1% 3-P on 4.3 attempts per game) but is also capable of beating close-outs by putting the ball on the floor and approaching the rim effectively. Skilled at moving without the ball, he does not shy away from providing some highlights by correcting a tap-in (1.7 offensive rebounds) or being ready at the right moment for cuts, then finishing strong at the basket. He has shown interesting reads that make him a potential facilitator (1.2 assists) although he still forces a few too many possessions (1.1 turnovers). He rarely explores low-post options, even in favorable mismatch situations, such as mid-range shots despite having an adequate shooting touch.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Miles Norris has a combination of athleticism and lateral mobility that makes him a valuable perimeter defender where he can attempt to contain opposing guards. On the downside, he lacks adequate interior presence as his rebounding numbers are disappointing for a player with his attributes (4.4 in his own half-court) and he also suffers from lapses in timing during defensive switches. He is decent as an intimidator (0.8 blocks per game).
IMPROVED AREAS
Miles Norris needs to find greater consistency within the game as he currently alternates between moments of pure talent, where he can produce many points in a short time, and a drop in intensity. Ensuring a more solid presence in the paint, especially on defense, should contribute both the necessary physicality and energy for rebounding. He has what it takes to start on a mid-level European league team; having shown promising potential, he could also become a regular presence in the rotations of a club involved in continental competitions.
