INTRODUCTION
Courvoisier McCauley began his college journey in Division II at Lincoln Memorial under the guidance of coach Schertz, then transferring to the higher level with a destination of DePaul, before concluding at Indiana State thanks to the call of his former mentor who had meanwhile moved to the prestigious (thanks to Larry Bird) bench of the Sycamores. Individual accolades received while still under Schertz’s guidance: Player of the Year in the SAC in 2020 and then player of the week for the MVC multiple times in 2023.
PHYSICAL
Courvoisier McCauley is a good athlete, with a sculpted physique but not excessively so, which ensures him good mobility combined with a certain solidity in physical contact. He is not particularly fast, occupies space well, and this quality proves very useful in defensive phases. His wingspan is average, and overall he has the perfect body for playing basketball without outstanding talents or easily noticeable flaws.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Courvoisier McCauley, once in rhythm, is a first-level shooter from beyond the arc, as confirmed by his 38% on 8.5 attempts per game. He prefers to score off ball movement or coming off screens, and while he does not shy away from attacking the rim in isolation situations. He is adept at moving without the ball, particularly with cuts along the baseline from the weak side. It is rare to see him establish position in the low post, even when being guarded by physically inferior opponents. His passing skills are questionable, with playmaking abilities being foreign to him. When he has the ball, he tends to finish on his own.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Courvoisier McCauley is a strong defender against his man. His combination of athleticism and physique allows him to hold his own against larger opponents. He encounters a bit more difficulty against particularly quick players on the perimeter but remains reliable, demonstrating himself as a valuable and impactful resource in his half of the court. He also ensures a solid presence on the boards (5.5 average) and a few steals (1.1 this year) thanks to his intensity.
IMPROVED AREAS
Courvoisier McCauley needs to expand his arsenal of offensive solutions to become more well-rounded. Currently, 65% of his shots are taken from beyond the three-point line, and considering his limited willingness to make winning passes, he risks being an easy read for opposing defenses. Essentially, he is already a feasible 3&D player at a mid-level, and if he maintains what he showcased during his Senior season, he could aim for a role in prestigious European clubs.
