POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
TyShaun Crawford was originally recruited by Georgia Southern, but after his freshman season he chose to drop down a division, becoming the focal point for Augusta, where he led his team to the national final last season. He was named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team, and in the national title game (lost against Northwest Missouri State led by Trevor Hudgins) he was Augusta’s top scorer with 15 points. His collegiate path reflects a player who found the right competitive environment to fully express his impact and leadership.
PHYSICAL
TyShaun Crawford is a true giant with long limbs and a well-built frame, though not excessively muscular. He is somewhat heavy-footed when running the floor, but he shows good overall coordination and sufficiently quick feet to create space in the low post. He lacks vertical explosiveness and can suffer athletically against quicker and more dynamic opponents. However, his size, reach, and positional strength make him a constant physical presence around the paint.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
TyShaun Crawford is primarily a low-post scorer who uses his body effectively to carve space close to the rim. His left-handed hook shot is a reliable weapon, and he is also capable of scoring from mid-range. This latter aspect is particularly interesting in perspective, as he currently relies more on his physical advantage against inferior opponents, even though his free-throw percentage (around 70%) suggests a soft and educated touch. Handling a high volume of possessions, he is regularly doubled and has shown the ability to make basic but effective reads, finding cutters or kicking out to open teammates. He is also a solid screener, and as a roll-man he exploits the advantage to attack the rim with power and minimal resistance.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
TyShaun Crawford provides strong rim protection, averaging over 2.5 blocks per game, confirming his value as an intimidator in the paint. However, his rebounding numbers raise some concerns, with only six double-doubles at a level where he enjoys a clear physical advantage over most opponents. Rival teams often try to force switches onto the perimeter, where his mobility makes it difficult for him to contain quicker players. As a positional defender in static situations, he is very hard to move, but in space he can be exposed.
IMPROVED AREAS
While it remains to be seen whether he can consistently develop his mid-range scoring to become a more complete offensive option and not just an inside presence, rebounding stands out as the main area for improvement for a player of his size. Even if he pays something in terms of pure athleticism, he cannot afford to lack a dominant presence on the boards. His profile belongs to a type of big man that modern basketball is gradually seeking less, but admirers will not be lacking, and a professional career in Europe, or even in Asia, given the appreciation for physically imposing players, appears well within reach.
