INTRODUCTION
Vance Jackson was a four-star recruit whose college career started at UConn in 2016 and ended at East Carolina in 2022, with stops at New Mexico and Arkansas during the pandemic period. Overall, he spent six seasons in NCAA basketball without finding long-term stability. Questions about consistency and approach followed him throughout his college career, and after receiving no opportunity in the G-League Draft, he moved to Taiwan to begin his professional career.
OFFENSIVE PROFILE
Vance Jackson is a versatile offensive player who can operate in multiple positions. His 3P shot may not have the cleanest mechanics, but his size makes it difficult to contest and he converted 40.7% on 6.5 attempts per game in his final season. When used as a power forward, his shooting provides valuable floor spacing. He can also put the ball on the floor effectively, attacking closeouts and creating scoring opportunities from the mid-range. His reluctance to absorb contact limits his rim pressure and interior scoring, although he has shown good reads and passing instincts when operating from post-up situations.
DEFENSIVE PROFILE
Vance Jackson has the athletic tools and mobility to defend different types of opponents, including quicker perimeter players. At this stage, however, he is more effective within a team defensive structure than as an individual stopper, as lapses in concentration can lead to breakdowns on the ball. His impact as a rim protector remains well below what his physical profile might suggest, recording only four blocks in his final college season. Rebounding production is also relatively modest considering his size and athletic tools.
DEVELOPMENT AREAS
Defensive discipline, consistency and engagement are the main areas for improvement. Jackson has the physical tools to become a much more impactful defender but can be too passive and inconsistent from possession to possession. A more assertive approach would also help him maximize his offensive versatility, as he sometimes tends to wait for opportunities rather than actively impose himself on the game. His previous experiences at high-level programs such as UConn and Arkansas also leave some questions about his ability to consistently translate his talent into a stable role.
