POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Daytone Jennings has had a university career in Division II where he amassed a remarkable number of double-doubles. Twice named to the CCAA first team, once he finished his college career, he signed in Finland where he immediately made a significant impact with 14.5 points and 7 rebounds per game in his early appearances.
PHYSICAL
Daytone Jennings is a tall, slender and lightly muscled individual, who makes use of his athletic exuberance and mobility as his strengths. He is quick to cover the court with his long walk, smoothly transitioning to the rim in transition. Though he struggles with physical contact when playing defense against stronger opponents.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Daytone Jennings is extremely skilled at moving off the ball, and he tends to finish near the rim, but in recent seasons he has started working on a mid-range shot and in Finland. He is also trying to improve his shot from beyond the arc (31.8% which can be encouraging). At times, he ventures into dribbling – strictly to the left, as he is left-handed – to beat slower opponents and boasts unsuspected facilitator skills, especially from the post where he exploits mismatches.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Daytone Jennings has quick enough feet to allow him to help out on the perimeter. He needs to discipline himself more to avoid too many careless fouls, but he is dedicated to the defensive phase. He is a valuable presence on the boards, yet surprisingly, he is not a great shot blocker, which seems like a curious anomaly given his physical abilities.
IMPROVED AREAS
The free throw percentages of Daytone Jennings are truly bad (43.8 in the first 15 games on Finnish soil) and besides those, he will need to increase his awareness beyond the three-point line in order to play more minutes as a wing and move away from battles under the boards. Improving physical prowess could be an option, but only by maintaining current mobility. The upside seems limited, but a career at a medium European level should be guaranteed.
