INTRODUCTION
José Perez was born just steps from the Bronx; this Dominican boy seemed destined for baseball, but at the age of 14, he discovered el baloncesto and fell in love with it. He had two standout seasons at Gardner-Webb before moving to Marquette, where he spent a year without much luck. Then he went to Manhattan, where he was named to the First Team MAAC, leading him to a high-major opportunity with the Mountaineers. A versatile player who can be useful in any position, he isn’t very quick, but his reading ability allows him to choose the best option. He can attack a big man off the dribble or go into the post to hit a fadeaway if matched up with a guard. His strength lies in his ability to find teammates with numbers like an experienced playmaker. His shooting hand isn’t that of a top-notch shooter, and in his last college season, significant improvement will be necessary. On defense, his size is useful for obscuring the view of guards and holding up against stronger players, even though he doesn’t possess above-average athleticism.
