INTRODUCTION
Toyaz Solomon developed through a productive junior college path before emerging at UNC Asheville. During his JUCO career, he earned multiple NJCAA recognitions, including Region-10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. After a late breakout in his junior season at the D-I level, he became a full-time starter in his senior year and earned consecutive Big South Second Team All-Conference selections. In his final season, he was also named to the conference All-Tournament Team. Across three years in D-I, Solomon produced more than 1,200 points, 550 rebounds and 120 blocks, building a profile centered on interior scoring, rebounding and defensive activity.
OFFENSIVE PROFILE
Toyaz Solomon is an athletic frontcourt scorer who thrives in up-tempo systems thanks to his mobility and open-court speed. His offensive production mainly comes from transition finishes, cuts, drop-off situations and straight-line drives created through mobility advantages. He runs the floor effectively and can attack slower defenders off the dribble, although he still struggles to consistently finish through physical contact. While his size is adequate for the role, he lacks a fully developed physical structure to consistently impose himself in static post situations, reflected by a modest 47.3% from 2P range. One of the most encouraging developments during his graduate season was the improvement in perimeter shooting, converting 36.3% from 3P range on 2.8 attempts per game, adding versatility to his offensive profile. His passing production also improved, although he does not project as a facilitator. Increased ball-handling responsibilities and 1v1 creation can still lead to turnover issues (2.2 per game).
DEFENSIVE PROFILE
Toyaz Solomon provides strong defensive activity around the basket, using mobility, timing and length to impact plays in the paint. He led the Big South in blocks during his senior season and maintained more than 1.3 blocks per game in his final year, confirming his presence as a rim protector. Rebounding is another important component of his defensive value, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game during his D-I career. His mobility allows him to cover ground effectively and recover in help situations, although he can struggle against physically stronger interior players. His defensive impact is strongest near the rim, where activity and timing compensate for the lack of elite size and strength. He projects more as a mobile interior defender than as a switch-heavy frontcourt piece.
DEVELOPMENT AREAS
Adding strength and improving physical resistance would significantly increase Toyaz Solomon’s effectiveness in both finishing situations and defensive matchups against stronger frontcourt players. Continuing the development of his perimeter shot will be essential to expanding his offensive versatility and making him a more complete modern forward. Improving decision-making with the ball, particularly in 1v1 situations and off-dribble creation, would help reduce turnovers and improve offensive efficiency. Defensively, increasing consistency in positioning and discipline away from the rim would support his transition to higher-level professional competition.
