INTRODUCTION

Jonathan Rivera is a dynamic Canadian-Salvadoran frontcourt player who has built his development path across multiple levels. After gaining experience in the United States at the NJCAA and NAIA levels, he returned to Canada, where he currently plays for York University with a primary role in the paint. He provides interior presence through rebounding and rim protection, supported by adequate size and a solid wingspan.

Jonathan Rivera runs the floor well and plays with good reactivity, allowing him to impact the game in transition and through off-ball activity. His mobility makes him an effective roller in pick-and-roll situations and a productive cutter, while his energy on the offensive glass translates into second-chance scoring opportunities. As a post player, he shows functional footwork, though added strength or the development of a short face-up or mid-range option would help diversify his scoring profile.

Offensively, his shooting range remains limited, with no consistent 3-P threat at this stage. As a facilitator, he shows basic passing instincts but has room to improve his reads and decision-making, particularly in managing the ball under pressure, where turnovers can occur due to handling risks.

Defensively, Rivera offers positional versatility across the frontcourt. He has enough lateral mobility to step out on the perimeter and the size to contest shots and provide help defense around the rim. However, frequent switches onto quicker guards can expose him in 1v1 situations and lead to foul management issues.

Overall, Jonathan Rivera is a frontcourt prospect with size, mobility, and activity worth monitoring at the professional level. His experience across different competitive environments in the United States, Canada, and with the El Salvador national team reflects a mature profile with adaptability to multiple contexts.

Note: Cotonou passport eligibility is expected to be finalized ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.
