INTRODUCTION
Yanni Augustave is a point guard who starred for the Qormi Dragons in Malta’s Second Division last season. After collegiate stints at Becker College and limited play at Hastings College, he found a breakout role at Barclay College during his senior season. Since moving to Malta in February, he has been dominant: averaging approximately 18 ppg, 8 rpg, 6 apg, and 4 spg with a perfect 6–0 regular season start. He led the finals of the BOV League where the Dragons were the runners-up.
PHYSICAL
Yann Augustave displays a solid size and physique as a point guard combined with quickness and endurance. While he can absorb contact well in traffic or when fighting through screens, he lacks elite explosiveness. His active hands and agility support both transition offense and perimeter defense. However, he lacks athleticism, which may compromise his efficiency and limit his ability to draw fouls and get to the free-throw line more often. His physical profile suits a high-tempo style, but he needs added explosiveness to thrive in more physical pro systems.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Yann Augustave is a point guard who shows leadership on offense, initiating tempo and orchestrating plays (6 assists per game). He is a capable shooter behind the three-point arc, even though he has a release that is not always quick, which can limit him in pull-up situations. Effective in transition and ready to push the fast breaks, his playmaking is advanced, making reads and delivering to cutters. He prefers to manage pick and roll situations, not always having the explosiveness to create an advantage off the dribble. In Malta, he dominates the stat sheet across scoring, rebounding, and distributing. However, with a notable usage, he is turnover-prone and struggles to draw fouls and reach the free-throw line consistently. To maximize his role, he must channel aggression and efficiency, avoiding forced attempts and improving shot selection.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Yann Augustave can apply strong pressure on the perimeter and has reactive hands (4 steals per game). His size and good strength allow him to get over screens and work on passing lanes. His aggressiveness in anticipating plays can open easy paths to the basket for opponents, requiring more attention. Yann Augustave has lateral quickness that makes him a viable on-ball defender, and he contributes defensively in transition and rebounding. However, his lack of length and athleticism may expose him in physical on-ball matchups. While his effort is high, he must refine his positioning and discipline in passing lanes to ensure an impact at higher levels.
IMPROVED AREAS
Yanni Augustave needs to improve his overall decision-making and limit turnovers, especially when managing high-usage situations. Adding explosiveness would enhance his ability to beat defenders off the dribble and draw more contact at the rim, improving his free-throw frequency. Defensively, while his anticipation leads to many steals, he must learn to balance aggression with positioning discipline to avoid giving up easy looks. Efficiency, controlled tempo, and defensive maturity will be key to his professional transition. He could be a valuable fit for an entry-league team that needs a point guard capable of providing leadership and versatility.
