INTRODUCTION

Fidelis Okereke began his collegiate career at Cal State Northridge, where he played for three years. Although he had a bench rotation role, he led the team in rebounds and blocks in multiple seasons and ranked eighth all-time in career blocks for the program. He transferred to the Roadrunners, where he became a starter in 62 of the 64 games in his last two years. In his graduate season, he achieved career highs in minutes played, points scored, and blocks, confirming himself as a solid player in the Big West Conference, despite not receiving any awards.

PHYSICAL

Fidelis Okereke possesses a strong and sturdy frame, which allows him to be competitive in the paint even though he is not exceptionally tall. His physicality enables him to compete effectively near the glasses, using his strength to establish position and battle for rebounds. While not the most explosive and vertical, his solid build compensates for his height disadvantage. His athleticism is adequate, with good mobility that enables him to contribute on both ends of the floor. Overall, his ability to absorb contact and good timing in positioning make him a concrete undersized big.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Fidelis Okereke is a limited scorer who sacrifices himself in setting screens and rolling to the basket. He is primarily a low-post player who relies on his strength to score near the basket. While his limited shooting range has not always demonstrated efficiency around the rim as a finisher (49.7% on 4.5 attempts). He struggles to create his own shot, and his post movements are mechanical and predictable. However, his offensive game has ample room for development; his mid-range shot is not very reliable, and the mechanics are questionable, but it is a work in progress, as confirmed by his free throw percentage (64.9% on 2.8 attempts). Okereke contributes modestly as a facilitator, and his turnover rate (1.3 per game) suggests a need for better decision-making under pressure. Overall, he is intense and moves a lot off the ball to help his teammates with screens and second chances (2.2 offensive rebounds per game).

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Fidelis Okereke uses his dynamism and physicality to protect the paint but can switch to the perimeter with energy. His timing and good sense of positioning make him a respectable rim protector (1.2 blocks in 23.5 minutes) in help situations. His rebounding numbers, while solid, could be enhanced by improving his verticality and anticipation. However, his lateral mobility can be improved, as can his contact management, which leads him to struggle with foul management (3.2 per game) that limits his minutes on the court. His energy and willingness to sacrifice need to be disciplined to avoid giving up too many free throws to opponents. Nevertheless, his strength allows him to hold his ground against post players despite his few centimeters in height.

IMPROVED AREAS

Fidelis Okereke needs to expand his offensive repertoire to become a more complete player. His post game is currently mechanical and lacks versatility, while his mid-range shot remains unreliable with questionable shooting form. Improving his touch around the basket and overall efficiency as a finisher would enhance his scoring impact. Enhancing his decision-making under pressure and refining his feel in short-roll or passing situations could also elevate his value as a role player. On the defensive end, he must work on reducing fouls and improving lateral quickness, which would allow him to stay on the court longer and guard in space more effectively. For his rookie season, he can be an impactful player in a mid-to-low level league. While he may not seem to have a significant upside, fighters like him can be useful in any playing system.
