INTRODUCTION
K.J. Doucet began his college career at Fort Valley State, where he made an immediate impact. Freshman of the Year in 2022, First-Team SIAC, and Player of the Year in 2023. He then transferred to the Eagles, where he quickly became an integral part of the starting five. Along with teammate Kelton Telford, he formed a dynamic duo that led Winthrop to two positive seasons and the Conference Finals in 2025. Personally, he received a Big South honorable mention.
PHYSICAL
K.J. Doucet has the perfect build to play as a combo forward, combining physical presence with good athleticism. Dynamic and possessing good lateral mobility, he runs the court well. Despite having a well-sculpted body, he can struggle to absorb contact when driving to the hoop; working on better coordination and balance could make him more solid as a finisher. He is not very reactive, which creates issues for him; if not well-positioned, he tends to commit fouls (3 on average in 24.5 minutes over two years with Winthrop) due to an excess of energy.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
K.J. Doucet is versatile, capable of driving to the basket off the dribble and reliably creating space for a mid-range jumper (57.7% from 2-P on 6.1 attempts). In open court, he effectively covers ground and can directly lead the possession. Additionally, his ability to move without the ball makes him a dynamic player, ready for rebounds (1.4 per game), but he has room to finish in traffic. However, his three-point shot as a spot-up shooter allows him to space the floor (34.5% on 3.2 attempts) despite having a release that is not too quick and is not the best solution. He possesses good handling skills for his size but must pay more attention to instances of overconfidence (2.1 turnovers per game). Overall, he is a complete and versatile player who perhaps lacks the natural talent to be considered a true scorer.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
K.J. Doucet has defensive tools to guard against multiple types of opponents. His strength allows him to sacrifice himself near the basket but he is effective on the perimeter thanks to a lateral mobility suitable for his size. He needs to improve his reading of defensive situations and his responsiveness during defensive rotations to increase his overall effectiveness, which is useful for avoiding foul problems. He is not very active in anticipating passing lanes. Good help on rebounds (5.5 per game in his senior season). Overall, he is a potential lockdown defender on the ball but has room for improvement in understanding rotations.
IMPROVED AREAS
K.J. Doucet is a versatile player capable of contributing in many aspects on the court. Although he excels in this regard, he needs to improve his decision-making and manage possessions better by limiting excess with his handling. Defensively, he has the tools to become a factor; his on-ball potential is elite, but he must refine his rotation management and pay closer attention to fouls that often affect him. He certainly possesses the qualities to become a versatile glue guy at a good level; for his rookie season, a league of average quality may be ideal for adapting to Overseas play.
