INTRODUCTION

Jalen Terry was a 2020 Michigan Mr. Basketball finalist and began his collegiate basketball career at Oregon. After his freshman season, he transferred to DePaul where he had space and responsibility but was part of a team that struggled to achieve results in the Big East. In his final season, he moved to the Eagles where he was a starter and the team’s leading scorer (ranking second in the Conference) and second in assists. He is in the top 10 among players with the most minutes played in the entire NCAA (37.5 per game), confirming his fundamental role at EMU. He emerged as a standout performer, earning back-to-back Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors in February 2025 and securing a spot on the All-MAC Second Team.

PHYSICAL

Jalen Terry does not possess great size; he should add muscle to his upper body to absorb physical contact. Very fast and capable of making significant accelerations, he is a dynamic and mobile player with good coordination that allows him to maintain balance during contact. Reactive with quick hands, his endurance and court awareness allow him to maintain a high level of play throughout games. Overall, he should work on strength while maintaining his speed and reactivity.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Jalen Terry is a dynamic point guard with strong shooting skills from beyond the three-point arc. He is a player known for his scoring prowess and shooting efficiency. With the Eagles, he showcased solid shot selection and finishing ability at the rim (55.9% on 2-point attempts with 5.2 attempts), particularly in transition situations where his speed allows him to outrun defenders. The ability to create his own shot off the dribble, combined with his proficiency in catch-and-shoot situations, makes him a versatile scoring threat (38.1% on 7.6 attempts per game, matching his NCAA career shooting percentage). His standout performance included a career-high 38-point game against Toledo, where he shot 15/17 from the field, including 6/7 from three-point range. He also contributes as a facilitator, averaging 2.9 assists per game. However, he is not a floor general, and his reads have room for improvement. His speed can lead him to go out of rhythm (2.5 turnovers per game) and may not ensure proper management of possessions.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Jalen Terry brings intensity with his lateral mobility and quick hands that make him intense under pressure on the perimeter. His reactivity and understanding of passing lanes make him an active stealer, averaging 1.6 steals per game last season. Additionally, he can surprise with his contributions to rebounding efforts, averaging 4.9 rebounds per game, indicating his reactivity despite size disadvantages, and his ability to go coast to coast at high speed. However, he has room for improvement in terms of discipline and understanding of rotations. His physical aspect makes him a target in mismatch situations, as he cannot offer much resistance when opponents drive into the paint.

IMPROVED AREAS

Jalen Terry must continue to build physical strength to better absorb contact and reduce his vulnerability in mismatches. While his speed and scoring instincts are evident, his offensive impact is highly dependent on pace: when forced into half-court situations, his efficiency significantly drops. Additionally, his decision-making as a point guard still needs refinement; he tends to rush plays and commits turnovers when not in control. On the defensive end, improving his understanding of rotations and team concepts would enhance his reliability. Overall, he is a scorer suited for leagues that play at a high pace. Starting in Northern Europe could be his ideal environment.
