INTRODUCTION

Matt Rogers has been a pivotal player for American University, steadily progressing throughout his collegiate career. In his freshman season, he played only 10 games, but by the following year, he became part of the starting five. As a junior, he had his breakout season, becoming the technical and scoring leader for the Eagles and being named to the Second-Team of the Patriot League. In his senior year, he was included in the First-Team and confirmed this in his graduate year, where he led American to the Conference title for the first time in 11 years, being named Tournament MVP and scoring 25 points in the final.

PHYSICAL

Matt Rogers possesses an interesting size combined with good mobility. His height helps him to be incisive in the game close to the paint. While not the most explosive athlete, Rogers compensates with solid footwork and balance. His physicality allows him to hold his ground against stronger opponents, but he may encounter difficulties absorbing physical contact in traffic and could add muscle mass to his upper body. However, there is room to enhance his lateral quickness and verticality, which can limit him on the defensive end.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Matt Rogers is a versatile scorer with a good basketball IQ. Capable of being effective playing from the post where he can create space for a shot, he is a reliable finisher (63.6% on 7.6 attempts). Less involved from mid-range or as a roller, lacking the explosiveness to drive to the basket in traffic, he compensates with good reads in short rolls (1.3 assists per game). His mobility takes him to the perimeter where he can stretch the floor with his three-point shooting (39.9% on 4.4 attempts). He has a quick catch and shoot release for his size that makes him hard to limit, he can attempt to attack off the dribble but has significant room for improvement in handling (2 turnovers per game over the last three seasons). Overall, with the necessary distinctions, he can be reminiscent of a player like Mike Daum.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Matt Rogers utilizes his understanding of positioning to make an impact in his half court. His size allows him to provide help on the boards where he struggles with a lack of verticality (5.6 rebounds on average). While he is solid in inside defense, his perimeter defense is an area for improvement, as quicker forwards have exploited this mismatch. He has energy and is ready to put his body on the line and sacrifice, but this can lead to some problems in foul management (2.7 fouls on average in 27 minutes, and 5 exits for reaching the limit). Overall, he has good awareness on defense but has athletic limitations to be effective.

IMPROVED AREAS

To maximize his professional potential, Matt Rogers should focus on improving his lateral quickness and vertical explosiveness. Developing greater physical strength, particularly in his upper body, will help him better absorb contact in traffic. Defensively, working on his perimeter footspeed would allow him to handle switches and avoid being exploited by quicker players. On the offensive end, refining his ball-handling skills will improve his overall scoring threat. Overall, he possesses game understanding skills that can help him have a successful career overseas. For his rookie year, he could make an impact in a mid-level league.
