INTRODUCTION
John Newman was recruited to Clemson but after losing his spot in the starting five during his junior year, he transferred to Cincinnati. Three seasons, including one redshirt due to injury, where he was a key player earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team of the BIG-12 in 2024. A player with a sculpted physique, a good athlete but well-structured to absorb contact in the paint, he possesses a completeness to his game that makes him a potential mismatch in any situation. Able to attack from the post when defended by a smaller opponent, he can play 1v1 off the dribble against slower defenders. This cleanliness in play is confirmed by the field goal percentage for a swingman (48.5% on 7.1 attempts); his three-point shooting is reliable though not his best option (35.1% on 2.6 attempts). Defensively, he is capable of guarding multiple roles, with quick hands and a responsiveness that makes him valuable on the boards (5.4 in his graduate senior year).
