INTRODUCTION
Garrett Hicks spent four seasons as a starter and key player for Alabama A&M, earning Second Team All-SWAC honors in 2021 and a spot on the NABC All-District Second Team in 2022. For his senior season, he transferred to Samford, where he served as the backup to Rylan Jones on the SoCon Championship team of 2024, led by Jaden Campbell.
Garrett Hicks is an explosive and dynamic ball handler capable of attacking the rim with confidence thanks to his strong dribble control and quick first step. A consistent three-point shooter, he can create his own shot off the dribble (40.3% from three on five attempts per game at Alabama A&M). Offensively, he still has room to grow as a playmaker, averaging 1.5 assists per game, and occasionally forces plays, leading to a similar turnover rate (1.4 per game).
Defensively, Hicks is active and competitive. He applies strong on-ball pressure, anticipates passing lanes effectively (1.4 steals per game), and contributes on the boards despite limited size (4 rebounds per game at Alabama A&M), often initiating fast-break opportunities. His reduced frame and physical strength can limit his effectiveness near the basket, but his energy and pace help offset those gaps.
At the professional level, Hicks projects as a high-energy backup guard capable of providing immediate impact in mid-low tier European leagues, with potential to grow into a valuable rotation player as his decision-making and playmaking mature.
