POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Jordan Johnson began his NCAA career at a JuCo before transferring to Denver, where he played in 2021/22. He then moved to the Privateers, becoming the team’s top scorer and assist-man, which led to him being named twice to the Southland Conference second team. In his final season, he scored over 30 points six times and updated his career high to 40, approaching 1200 points in just two seasons in New Orleans.
PHYSICAL
Jordan Johnson doesn’t have a large size but compensates with speed and dynamism that make him difficult to contain for opponents. A good athlete, he has decent body control and coordination, but adding muscle could help him absorb contact better when driving to the basket. Very responsive hands, he is a high-level player in open court with his quickness.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Jordan Johnson is a point guard with great scoring abilities, able to drive to the basket at all three levels. Very quick at creating a shot off the dribble in any situation, he can decisively attack the rim thanks to a 1vs1 combination of handling skills and a quick first step, resulting in being a valuable free throw generator. His three-point shooting can be deep, as he finished his NCAA career with 40.1% on 6.2 attempts per game. He does not possess great court vision and his shot selection can be wild; however, his assist/turnover ratio remains decent (+1.58 in the last season). He can struggle against the aggression of a more physical opponent’s press and may lose some possessions due to overly individualistic plays.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Jordan Johnson can provide strong pressure and with quick hands he is able to disrupt possessions and steal the ball (1.5 steals per match). With his lateral mobility, he can stay in front of opposing guards but he lacks great energy and can have concentration lapses. Near the basket, he struggles due to his size and can be a target to attack in mismatch situations. He is reactive on long rebounds (3.2 per game) which he can use to initiate fast breaks.
IMPROVED AREAS
Jordan Johnson is an elite scorer who can decisively lead his team with initiatives and leadership. He could work on sculpting his body, especially the upper part, which would help him better handle physical contacts. Better possession management and a greater willingness to play with teammates could take him to a higher level. On the defensive end, more discipline and energy on the perimeter would make it easier to provide help. He could immediately be a high-level scorer in a medium European league, and through his adaptation, he could play on more prestigious stages.
