INTRODUCTION

Larry Wise began his college career at North Texas before transferring to West Texas A&M, where he quickly established himself as one of the team’s leading players. In just two seasons with the Buffaloes, he surpassed 1,000 points and 300 rebounds, earning two All-Lone Star Conference First Team selections and helping the program capture the conference title in 2023. Entering the new season as a key offensive contributor, he is aiming for another conference championship while positioning himself among the leading candidates for Lone Star Conference MVP honors.

PHYSICAL

Larry Wise is a well-built and athletic wing with a strong upper body, good mobility and the physical tools to operate across multiple positions. He runs the floor effectively and can push the ball in transition, combining coordination and body control to finish through contact near the basket. His footwork is solid, while his quick hands and lateral mobility provide the foundation for defensive versatility. Overall, his combination of strength, athleticism and movement skills gives him the physical profile to contribute on both ends of the floor.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Larry Wise is a versatile three-level scorer whose main strength is his perimeter shooting. Over his last two seasons, he converted 36.6% of his 3P attempts on 5.3 shots per game, showing reliable touch in spot-up situations and the ability to create jumpers off the dribble. He is also effective attacking the basket, using his athleticism and physical strength to absorb contact and finish around the rim. His free-throw shooting is particularly impressive, with an 89% career average and a 24-for-25 start through the first five games of the current season. However, his ball-handling can become inconsistent under pressure, leading to avoidable turnovers when trying to create his own offense. His playmaking remains a developing aspect of his game (1.7 assists per game), while his off-ball movement could become more effective with better timing and greater activity on weak-side cuts. He can also exploit smaller defenders in post-up situations, adding another dimension to his scoring profile.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Larry Wise possesses the physical tools to defend multiple positions, combining strength, mobility and quick hands with the athleticism needed to compete against different offensive profiles. However, his defensive impact remains inconsistent compared to his potential. He can become overly focused on generating steals, occasionally losing positioning and allowing opponents to exploit open driving lanes or cuts behind the defense. His individual defensive discipline also needs improvement, particularly when containing opponents without gambling for the ball. On the glass, he averaged 3.9 rebounds per game last season, a respectable contribution but one that leaves room for improvement considering his physical attributes.

IMPROVED AREAS

Larry Wise has the offensive versatility and physical profile to cover multiple perimeter roles, offering valuable tactical flexibility. Improving ball security and decision-making would make him a more dependable offensive creator, while greater off-ball activity could help him generate easier scoring opportunities without relying heavily on individual possessions. Defensively, consistency, positioning and a more disciplined approach are essential to fully exploit his athletic tools. Increasing his rebounding involvement would further strengthen his overall contribution and help him develop into a more complete two-way player.
