INTRODUCTION
Sam Sessoms, after playing at Binghamton and Penn State, moved to Coppin State. A handler who loves to continuously attack the rim, despite not being very tall he has a well-built physique and handles contacts well in traffic. He tends to always start on the right side, which is a detail to work on to avoid becoming too predictable for defenses. His three-point shot, strictly off the dribble, is taken sporadically but with interesting percentages (42% last season, 39% in the current one). Despite being very ball-dominant, when used away from the ball, he positions himself in a corner and passively waits for the action to unfold. He is not at all selfish: his incursions to the rim generate double teams that he promptly punishes if the teammate cuts to the rim with the right timing. Clearly, there are turnovers for a player who has the ball in his hands a lot, often resulting from not particularly wise assessments when attacking the opponent’s basket.
Defensively, he can be very dangerous on passing lanes, while on his own man, he simply tries not to let him go too easily. In his final year at college, he will then explore his opportunities, and a mid-small European reality could be the ideal landing spot to understand how much upside he may have in Europe.
