INTRODUCTION

Stephon Roberts started at Weatherford College before transferring to Virginia State, where he developed into a role-playing rim protector off the bench. His final two seasons of NCAA journey were with the Peacocks, where he carved out a spot to become part of the starting-five. As the second-best rebounder and blocker on the team, playing 22 minutes per game, he recorded a standout performance with a 15-point, 17-rebound double-double against St. Elizabeth. Roberts earned MAAC All-Academic honors, confirming his commitment not only on the court.

PHYSICAL

Stephon Roberts has a combination of size, wingspan, and athleticism that is quite intriguing. He demonstrates fluid mobility and decent positioning in the paint, using coordination rather than pure explosiveness. While his build supports interior rebounding and shot contesting, adding functional muscle would improve his ability to absorb contact at the professional level. However, lateral mobility and footwork can be improved, but overall, his physical and athletic tools can make him a player of considerable impact.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Stephon Roberts is a raw talent who plays a low-volume but has the potential to be an efficient finisher. He finishes well around the rim and contributes through cut actions and offensive rebounds (2.3 per game). In pick-and-roll situations, he needs to be served deep, has room for improvement as a lob threat, and should develop stronger hands when attacking the rim while absorbing contact. His post-up game relies more on strength than footwork, and his touch is not always reliable. However, his shooting range is limited, and developing a mid-range jumper would be the first step to becoming more versatile in scoring. He averaged 0.9 assists in 22 games, demonstrating a good understanding of the game, and showed a minimal turnover impact (1.1 per game), though he isn’t a creator with the ball. His offensive value lies in energy, interior presence, and fitting within team systems rather than scoring volume.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Stephon Roberts impacts defensively with solid rim protection and rebounding. His ability to anchor in the paint makes him a dependable defensive role player, in help situations and he has good timing and positioning. As part of a team that emphasized rebounding dominance, he contributed significantly on the glass (6.2 on average in 22 minutes of play). While not fast laterally, his instincts, size, and positioning let him act effectively within scheme-driven defense, especially in help situations. On the perimeter, he can have issues with switches and struggle to manage foul situations (2.8 per game).

IMPROVED AREAS

Stephon Roberts is still a raw player whose game needs polishing on multiple fronts. His offensive skillset is limited to finishing actions and offensive rebounding, with ball security and touch around the rim remaining inconsistent. Expanding his shooting range to the mid-range and refining his post footwork would unlock versatility. Defensively, foul control and lateral quickness are the main issues to address in order to adapt to switch-heavy schemes at the pro level. Despite these gaps, his physical tools, rebounding instincts, and timing as a rim protector give him a real upside if he embraces development and gains pro-level experience.
