POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Julian Larry played for four years at Indiana State, becoming a key contributor. During his time with the Sycamores, he was named to the All-Defensive Team twice (2023 and 2024) and included in the MVC Third Team in 2024. Alongside Isaiah Swope, he formed the backcourt that contributed to Indiana State’s 32–7 record and their appearance in the NIT Championship game. For his graduate season, he transferred to the Longhorns, where he was one of the leaders of the second unit.
PHYSICAL
Julian Larry possesses a solid frame for a combo guard. His athleticism is evident in his lateral quickness and agility, allowing him to navigate through defenses and stay in front of opponents. While not exceptionally explosive, his body control and balance enable him to finish through contact and maintain coordination in traffic. He has good reactivity and runs well on the court. However, a greater muscle structure in the upper body could give him a better physical impact when driving to the rim.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Julian Larry is a versatile offensive player with a high basketball IQ. He excels in pick-and-roll situations, demonstrating patience and the ability to find open teammates. In his senior season with the Sycamores, in a structured game, he showcased his qualities, averaging 4.8 assists per game and a +2.35 assist-to-turnover ratio during the year. While he has an excellent shot selection (49% for his career from the field), he is not a pure scorer, with his career high being 21 points as a junior. His shooting efficiency is solid from beyond the arc (39.3% over the 5 seasons), making him a reliable threat both off the catch and the dribble. His ability to drive to the basket using his teammates’ screens and finish through contact adds another dimension to his offensive game. Overall, he is a solid player, unassuming but capable of setting the right tempo for his teammates and contributing in terms of points.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Julian Larry is a tenacious perimeter defender known for his active hands and anticipation. He ranked in the top-10 in the Missouri Valley Conference for steals in his senior season, averaging 1.5 per game. His lateral quickness and strength allow him to guard multiple positions effectively, often taking on the assignment of the opposing team’s best perimeter player. His defensive awareness and ability to read passing lanes contribute to his team’s transition opportunities. However, he needs to improve his timing in rotations and be more consistent against faster point guards, but his versatility is an important asset. He has been named to the All-Defensive Team twice in the MVC.
IMPROVED AREAS
Julian Larry needs to become more dynamic physically and offensively. Adding upper-body strength would help him absorb contact better when attacking the rim, while increased explosiveness could make him more effective in creating space. Although efficient, he’s not a natural scorer; developing more on-ball shot creation would diversify his offensive impact. Defensively, he’s solid, but struggles at times against quicker guards; greater consistency in closeouts and lateral reads could elevate his all-around effectiveness at the pro level. Overall, he is a player who can ensure an impact as a rookie in a mid-level European league. His potential is that of a solid rotation player in the major national championships.
