INTRODUCTION

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe is a forward in his final collegiate season. He was recruited by Oklahoma State, where he spent two seasons playing 15-20 minutes per game. He then transferred to Georgia, where he averaged 20 minutes, 5.5 points, and 5.1 rebounds in his first season but saw his role diminish significantly during his senior year, appearing in only 16 games and averaging 1 point per game. Moncrieffe opted to transfer to Seattle for his final collegiate season, where he has found more playing time and responsibility. He also represented Canada at the U19 World Cup in 2019.

PHYSICAL

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe boasts an athletic, slender frame with long arms, ideal for a forward. His height and build allow him to be effective both on the perimeter and in the paint. His decent lateral agility and quickness make him a versatile defender, capable of guarding multiple positions. However, what stands out most is his athleticism and body control, particularly in tight spaces and during pivots.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe thrives in transition and attacking the basket, using his explosiveness to finish effectively around the rim. His penetration ability makes him a constant threat to opposing defenses. He is also an excellent offensive rebounder, consistently dangerous in the paint due to his long arms and strong positioning (3.1 offensive rebounds per game). However, his biggest weakness is his outside shooting, which is still a work in progress and limits his effectiveness on the perimeter (just 3 three-point shot in his college career). On the positive side, he is a solid screener.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Defensively, Moncrieffe excels due to his physicality and athleticism. While not a rim protector (0.1 blocks per game in 2024-25), he uses his long arms to contest and disrupt shots. His length also allows him to intercept passes (1.6 steals per game), contributing effectively to both individual and team defense. His versatility enables him to guard multiple positions, from guards to big men. As a rebounder, he stands out for his position and height, averaging 10.7 rebounds per game, including 7.6 on the defensive end.

IMPROVED AREAS

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe’s biggest question mark remains his three-point shooting, with limited improvement potential in this area. That said, he has made strides in free-throw shooting, jumping from 51.8% over his first four seasons to a respectable 69.8% on 9 attempts per game in his final year. In a system where his physicality can make a difference, Moncrieffe could be a valuable player, capable of contributing as a power forward or a tactical center.
