INTRODUCTION
Elijah Hutchins-Everett began his NCAA career with Austin Peay, where he was named Freshman of the Year 2022 and was selected for the Second Team of the OVC. Transferring to the prestigious Seton Hall, he won the NIT 2024 as a backup to the starting center. In his final season, he will wear the jersey of the Dukes, becoming part of the starting-five with greater responsibilities and has the potential to replicate the breakout season T.J. Bickerstaff had last year.
PHYSICAL
Elijah Hutchins-Everett has the ideal size for a center. His wide frame and strong lower body allow him to hold his position in the post and box out effectively for rebounds. While not the most explosive athlete, he moves well for his size and has decent footwork, which helps him operate efficiently around the basket. His physicality makes him a solid presence in the paint, but he could improve his conditioning and lateral quickness to better handle faster-paced play or the switch on the perimeter in the defensive end.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Elijah Hutchins-Everett is versatile on the offensive end, the most reliable low-post scorer with a soft touch around the basket (56.9% from 2-P). He is also able to stretch the floor with a three-point shot that is a work in progress (31.1% on 1.3 attempts over three NCAA years) in terms of consistency. He needs to set screens better that do not create advantages -sometimes they result in offensive fouls- and improve his roll timing where the combination of size and footwork can make him difficult to contain. His footwork and patience in the post are key strengths, and he can also contribute as a passer when doubled (0.9 assists at Austin Peay) but must pay more attention to his limited handling abilities. He prefers to attack the basket while absorbing contact rather than taking a mid-range shot or pulling away.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Elijah Hutchins-Everett is a valid presence in the paint, using his size and length to protect against big men, making him an effective post defender. He prefers static situations because his lack of lateral quickness can make him vulnerable in pick-and-roll scenarios, where quicker guards can exploit him. Improving his footwork and positioning on the perimeter will be important for his development as a more complete defender and for better managing foul troubles. In terms of covering teammates, he is just an adequate rim protector with timing and reactivity that need improvement. He has the potential to be a solid rebounder, but he needs to be more consistent and have fewer lapses in focus.
IMPROVED AREAS
Elijah Hutchins-Everett is a center with interesting offensive qualities where he proves to be quite versatile. He needs to improve his consistency in three-point shooting and pay more attention to possessions. Enhancing the reliability of his screens and his playmaking skills would also make him more dependable. On the defensive end, he must make significant step forwards in the perimeter defense and manage foul troubles. Overall, the season with the Dukes could establish him as one of the most intriguing centers in the European market and allow him to start from a mid-level league.
