POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Noah Freidel was recruited by South Dakota State, where he was named Freshman of the year for the Summit League. After two more seasons and winning the Conference in 2022, he transferred to James Madison. In his first year, he struggled with shooting percentages, but in the second year, he was one of the key players in the victory of the Sun Belt Conference – named Tournament MVP – and in reaching the second round of the Big Dance.
PHYSICAL
Noah Freidel has a great size for his role, he possesses a solid frame that allows him to absorb contact. His athleticism is not elite, but he compensates with good body control and a strong ability to read the game while moving well off the ball. The combination of lateral quickness and reactivity is decent, but overall it’s basketball IQ that allows him to understand when he can have a physical advantage or not.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Noah Freidel is a reliable three-point shooter on high volumes (38.4% on 5.9 attempts per game); his quick release and great confidence make him a sharpshooter at a high level. He is skilled at moving off the ball and has good timing on cuts. He can drive to the basket, but his lack of athleticism sometimes makes it challenging for him to finish against solid defenders. When dribbling, he demonstrates a decent handle and can create his own shot in isolation situations, although he is more comfortable as a spot-up shooter. While he has shown flashes of playmaking (1.7 assists per game), he tends to be more of a scoring guard than a facilitator, occasionally making rushed decisions under pressure.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Noah Freidel shows good effort and awareness on the perimeter, using his length to contest opponents effectively. His size helps him guard multiple positions, primarily against other guards. Sometimes struggles against quicker guards due to his average lateral quickness and can be susceptible to getting beat off the dribble. His off-ball defense is generally solid but he can have lapses in concentration and create delays in help, not being aggressive on passing lanes and preferring to hold his position. His rebounding is very good for a guard (5.3 last season).
IMPROVED AREAS
Noah Freidel is a valuable guard with the ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting. His size and shooting are his primary assets, but to become a more well-rounded player, he needs to improve his explosiveness and decision-making on offense, as well as his consistency on the defensive end. He started his professional career in Belgium, a good league to confirm the qualities as a shooter that could allow him to take a step forward in the following years.
