INTRODUCTION
Trey Galloway is a guard in his fourth year at Indiana (Hoosiers), coached by former NBA coach Mike Woodson (Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks), after being a 4-star prospect in the recruiting phase. He is a versatile and complete player, capable of being effective in all phases of the game.
Offensively (10.6 points per game), he is an excellent penetrator to the basket, able to finish effectively (also protecting himself with the rim) and find an open teammate with a spectacular assist (4.6 per game). He is also a catch-and-shoot 3-point shooter, although this season he is shooting only 26% from 3PT – last year he shot 46.2% on 2.0 attempts per game. The percentage is affected by a 3/22 start to the season. Free throw percentages are also declining (53.3%) compared to his previous seasons. His playmaking vision is that of a point guard – a role in which it would be interesting to see him. Galloway is a good pick-and-roll player, he can also finish with a floater against rim-protectors.
Overall, his court positioning is excellent, never out of place – a synonym for basketball intelligence. He is often the first Hoosier to cross half-court and transition – a standout element.
Defensively, he is a solid player, combining basketball IQ with excellent athletic abilities. He is a high-energy defender who averages 1.2 steals per game.
’23/’24 season was his first season as a key player and he was still looking for consistency in performance, but even on bad days, he remains a very useful player to the team dynamics. His peak was 28 points against Kansas (ranked #2) with a 70.6% field goal percentage.
