INTRODUCTION: Keion Brooks Jr. is a forward in his final season at Washington. His college career began as one of the top prospects of his class (5-star prospect), choosing to play at Kentucky under Calipari. After 5 years in college, it can be said that he did not fully meet expectations, while still being a talented and interesting player. His 3 seasons at Kentucky were decent, reaching double figures in his sophomore and junior years. He then transferred to Washington, where he admirably took on the role of go-to-guy (21.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game). He was also named in First Team All-Pac-12 2024 and Second Team All-Pac-12 2023.
Turning to his characteristics, there is a significant difference between his offensive and defensive halves. On offense, he can score in many ways, from three-pointers to low post moves or mid-range shots, and he can also score with offensive rebounds (1.5 offensive rebounds per game). He might lack the spark to create spacing, but he compensates with his long arms. Significant progress was noted in his last season at Washington in three-point shooting (38% on 4.3 attempts), compared to his previous seasons (where he shot a maximum of 28%).
On defense, he is often passive or too focused on what is happening with the ball. In 1-on-1 situations, he is average, despite not excelling in reactivity. An important characteristic is his long arms (0.8 blocks per game), which have both pros (rebounds and passing lanes) and cons (being “stiff” on defense but also lightweight).
