INTRODUCTION
Gabe McGlothan’s college journey started with a freshman year at Southeast Missouri State (OVC), and, after a redshirt year (due to a knee injury), followed by the transfer to Grand Canyon Lopes, where he played his fourth season.
His trajectory at GCU has been on the rise, with scoring averages increasing from 6.1, 9.3 to 12.8 (both in junior and senior seasons) points per game.
McGlothan is a forward (mainly power forward) with excellent physicality and athleticism/explosiveness beyond the ordinary. He excels as a three-point shooter, especially in catch-and-shoot situations. This season, he is shooting at 39.8% from 3PT on 3.6 attempts per game. He is also a strong screener, leveraging his physicality and quick execution of both rolls and specially pops.
Offensively, however, he lacks personal initiative and the ability to create his own shot, perhaps in terms of creating separation. He is decidedly more effective when set in motion, often finishing with dunks or energetic plays, especially with cuts from the weak side.
Defensively, he is an excellent defender both in 1-on-1 situations on the perimeter and, particularly, in the low post, capable of guarding various roles effortlessly.
A great rebounder on both ends of the court, with an average of 7.3 rebounds (including 2.1 offensive rebounds).
He is one of the leaders and the heart of GCU, along with the talented Tyson Grant-Foster, leading the Lopes into the Ncaa Tournament 2024.
