INTRODUCTION
C.J. Walker is a forward from UCF in his fifth season in college. He was recruited as an ESPN five-star prospect by Oregon for his rookie year, transferring to UCF in his sophomore season.
His career has been marked by numerous injuries that have significantly slowed down his development. In the previous season, he played only 4 games, while in the current one, he has played just 9.
C.J. Walker is a player to build, who needs to be healthy, play consistently, and regain lost confidence. We could talk about his statistics, but they are not exceptional: 7.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks in 22.6 minutes. We could focus on the temporary lack of a reliable three-point shot (shooting at 31% but in the past, he has shot as high as 37.1%).
However, I would like to focus on his crystal-clear talent and athleticism, despite the injuries, which are still top-notch. Walker has an excellent ability to finish at the rim, is a good rim protector, and is a fundamentally solid player on both ends of the court. He can play in 3 positions (small, power forward and “tactical” center). In my opinion, there are still unexplored areas for improvement. Injuries and self-confidence will be the determining factors in his professional career.
