INTRODUCTION: Isaiah Cozart is a senior center in his final year at Eastern Kentucky. He made his college basketball debut with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (CUSA), where he spent 3 seasons with a marginal impact (48 games in total with a maximum of 6.1 minutes on average). Last season, he showed significant improvement, partly due to increased playing time at EKU (9.9 points and 7.5 rebounds). This season, he has truly established himself, making an impact on both offense and defense.
Cozart is a center who excels in bringing energy to the game. However, technically, he is still somewhat raw. His offensive skills, despite averaging 15.6 points, still need refinement. While he is an excellent screener, his “rolling” game is average. He can scores from high-intensity plays, offensive rebounds (4.0 per game), or assists in movement plays. He still needs to improve his skills in the low post.
His strong point is the defensive phase. This season, he is averaging 3.8 blocks and 9.7 rebounds. He is an excellent rim protector and proficient in defending pick-and-roll situations. His post defense is also commendable. In this season against Troy, he was also able to achieve a triple-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 blocks.
What is impressive is his ability to be active in all phases of rebounding battles. This sometimes leads to fatigue, especially if the game pace is too high (he still plays 31.0 minutes per game).
