INTRODUCTION

Ali Ali is a forward in his final college season at Akron. Ali began his journey at Akron, playing three seasons before transferring to Butler in 2022-2023 (In which, however, he did not have a great season). At the start of the season, Ali was a topic of discussion after his return to Akron, facing NCAA clearance issues and being able to return to the court only in mid-December. In the 2021-2022 season, he was named to the All-MAC Second Team.

Ali, a long-limbed forward, is averaging 15.8 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.7 rebounds this season. Two distinctive traits characterize his playing style:

Offensively, he prefers to initiate possessions with his “back to the basket” in a post-up, seeking to create an advantage for himself or his teammates (2.4 assists). He can shoot over defenders thanks to his long arms.

He is a constantly moving player, particularly on defense, showcasing excellent foot speed, feints, high hands, and the ability to contest shots with defensive help.

Defensively, he excels and often marks the opposing team’s best player, including point guards.

Offensively, he can also create his shot off the dribble, making space with a step-back move, even from beyond the arc. However, his shooting percentages are lacking, with only 29.2% from three-point range (but 46.7% from the field). In the 2021-2022 season, he shot 40.7% from long distance. He is a decent free-throw shooter (78.9%). He has the potential to be a better rebounder, although the boards are often dominated by Enrique Freeman.
