INTRODUCTION
Chris Youngblood is a shooting wing/guard in his fourth college season. He spent the first three seasons at Kennesaw State, posting impressive scoring averages (12.4 – 13.9 – 14.7 points per game), before transferring to South Florida.
Physically, he is a solid player with a massive build (99kg), lacking significant speed and possessing a limited first step. Offensively, his skills can be summarized in two key areas:
Three-point shooting: at South Florida, he has been shooting well from beyond the arc (41.8%), despite a difficult start to the season. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he shot at 40.5% and 41.5%, respectively. He excels in catch-and-shoot situations and off the dribble. While his technique isn’t perfect, his movements are very fluid.
Mid-range off-the-dribble shooting: often taking advantage of his three-point ability and defensive adjustments, he manages to create opportunities with mid-range off-the-dribble shots.
He doesn’t stand out in terms of playmaking and passing skills, although he can often find the big man in a pick-and-roll situation. He takes good care of the ball (1.6 turnovers per game), but at times may undervalue possessions. In certain tactical situations, he can contribute to setting screens thanks to his physicality. Defensively, he is an excellent player, capable of guarding multiple positions and often matching up against the opponent’s best player. He is challenging to beat in one-on-one situations. However, he falls short in rebounding (only 2.6 per game), and considering his physical attributes, he has the potential to perform better in this aspect.
He was named in the All-ASUN First Team 2022-2023.
