INTRODUCTION
Jahmir Young is a natural scorer at the combo guard spot who spent three seasons at Charlotte before transferring to Maryland through the portal. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the higher level of competition in the Big Ten, which is a significant step up from Conference USA.
A left-handed guard with a sharp first step, he is a reliable three-point shooter (35% over his collegiate career), particularly effective in catch-and-shoot situations rather than off the dribble. He attacks the rim with confidence and is not deterred by traffic or contact; when sent to the free-throw line, he is nearly automatic, shooting around 90%.
In pick-and-roll situations, he shows good playmaking instincts, though he can struggle at times in half-court sets, where his decision-making is less refined. This occasionally leads to avoidable turnovers, but his assist-to-turnover ratio remains on the positive side.
Defensively, he brings intensity on the ball and is capable of generating steals by pressuring his matchup. His quick reactions and physical effort also make him a strong rebounder for his position, as evidenced by the 6.0 rebounds per game he averaged in his final season at Charlotte.
