POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Jacob Ognacevic is a stretch-four with excellent offensive skills. He has just returned from a season off due to injury but does not seem to have been particularly affected by it. After starting his collegiate career in Valparaiso, he moved to Lipscomb in the 2021/22 season and immediately achieved good numbers. At the end of the 22/23 season, he was included in the Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference and the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team. Redshirting for the following season, he returned in 2024/25, winning the Conference title alongside Will Pruitt and Joe Anderson, and was named Player of the Year for the A-Sun. In his graduate season, he transferred to the Huskies.
PHYSICAL
Jacob Ognacevic has often suffered from injuries of various kinds during his time in college. Despite this, he does not appear to have faced any serious consequences. His style of play is not very aggressive physically, and for this reason, he remains a good option. He does not have a sculpted and defined muscular structure, but this is a secondary concern. Overall, his athletic limitations are evident, yet he compensates for them with his understanding of the game.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
One of his greatest skills on the court is his consistency with the 3-point shot, which he is taking to ever-greater heights (40.2% on 3.5 attempts). He has a good sense of positioning, moves well off the ball, and is able to get free on the perimeter. Unfortunately, he has virtually no dribbling skills, and turnovers (1.8 per game) when he is in possession of the ball can become a problem when he has to beat closeout defenders. He almost never manages to beat his man, and this could limit him in some one-on-one situations. To take an additional step forward, he must continue to focus on the 3-point shot without trying to alter his game. He can also play in the post against smaller opponents and has good footwork movement. Additionally, he has shown interesting improvements in court vision and as a facilitator (1.4 assists per game).
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Jacob Ognacevic is not particularly suited to defending the opponent’s dribble, as his foot mobility can be a limitation and at times he allows too much separation from his man. Still, he provides solid presence on the glass (8 rebounds per game), though he may struggle when matched with stronger and more physical opponents. In the post, he struggles to position his body against stronger opponents with a chiseled physique. He tends to avoid these situations and cover in help defense.
IMPROVED AREAS
Jacob Ognacevic is the kind of player who seems to improve game after game; every second spent on or off the court, he learns something, enhances his vision, and observes in an incredible way when others play. He certainly needs to regain confidence with the pace of the game, but it’s only a matter of time. He can undoubtedly be an excellent prospect, and he already starts at more than a good level for medium-level leagues.
