INTRODUCTION

Norchad Omier is a big man from Baylor in his final college season. Originally from Nicaragua, where he has already debuted for the national team, Omier began his college career at Arkansas State, where he played two high-level seasons, particularly his sophomore year, when he posted career-best averages of 17.9 points and 12.2 rebounds. At Arkansas State, he was named to the First-Team All-Sun Belt in 2021 and won both Sun Belt Player of the Year and Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. He then transferred to Miami, where he spent two seasons and earned Third-Team All-ACC honors in 2023 and Second-Team All-ACC honors in 2024. Finally, he moved to Baylor for his last year of college basketball.

PHYSICAL

Omier is an undersized big man at 201 cm (6’7”) and around 105 kg. Despite his shorter stature for a frontcourt player, he has a strong and solid frame, allowing him to battle effectively against taller opponents. At the same time, he is a dynamic big with good lateral quickness and transition speed. His long wingspan for his height enables him to be a decent rim protector, averaging 1.0 blocks per game.

OFFENSIVE PHASE

Despite being only 201 cm, Norchad Omier has good low-post skills and, thanks to his strength, is highly efficient around the rim (he shoots 67% from two-point range). Another of his key strengths is his pick-and-roll play—he is an excellent roller, setting well-timed screens and rolling to the basket with great body control. He is also one of the best offensive rebounders in college basketball (3.8 per game) due to his positioning, quickness, and physicality. Additionally, he is a better passer than his 1.8 assists per game suggest. His main offensive weakness is his perimeter game. He can shoot from three, but it is not his comfort zone—last season at Miami, he shot 35.3% from deep, but he has not maintained that efficiency in 2024/25, shooting just 29.1% on 2.0 attempts per game.

DEFENSIVE PHASE

Norchad Omier also makes his presence felt defensively. As mentioned, he was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. With his physical strength and good mobility, he offers multiple defensive options in pick-and-roll coverage—he can switch, contain, or close out effectively. Despite standing only 201 cm, he is a solid shot-blocker, averaging 1.0 blocks per game. His quick hands against opposing bigs make him an excellent ball thief, with 1.3 steals per game. He is also a great rebounder (6.6 defensive rebounds per game), consistently averaging a double-double throughout his college career. However, he needs to improve his foul management, as his intensity and aggressive style of play sometimes lead him to commit too many fouls (3.5 per game).

IMPROVED AREAS

Norchad Omier is undoubtedly a big man ready to contribute immediately at the professional level. Improving his perimeter efficiency would certainly benefit his career, but despite being undersized, he possesses key attributes that make him a valuable asset in a European basketball context.
