ACTUAL
POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Marcus Johnson is an atypical player, with a polite hand both from close range and from long distance combined with an unsporting physique. He comes from Wheeling Jesuit, Division II, where he showed very interesting things in two seasons. At the end of the 2023-24 season he was included in the MEC All-First Team.
PHYSICAL
Marcus Johnson is a player who definitely shows up on the field. However, his game is certainly not focused on his physique. He is certainly a player with a particular physique who however seems to find the right balance with the rhythm of the game. He definitely needs to try to limit his body fat.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Marcus Johnson leaves you speechless for his offensive and general scoring skills, he has a truly educated hand combined with an excellent vision of the court. His excellent percentages in free throws (93%) and 3-point shooting (37% on over 6 attempts per game) make him a player deserving of constant attention when he is on the offensive side of the court. Excellent post movements where he uses his weight to get close to the rim. Sometimes he also tries to pass the man on the dribble but with not always positive results.
DEFENSIVE PHASE
In defense, Marcus Johnson unfortunately pays for his poor athleticism. He is still quite present on the rebound (4.3) but he is not a great protector of the rim. He is difficult to anticipate the opponent. However, he takes up space in the area, often closing the way to the rim. Due to his poor elevation, he is practically useless in blocking shots. In 1v1 away from the basket he almost never manages to keep up. In post movements he uses his body to the best of his possibilities.
IMPROVED AREAS
Marcus Johnson is definitely a player to watch at the end of the season. He has a really high offensive talent that however needs to be accompanied in a path of athletic training and physical structure. An excellent player for a mid-level league team who can also play more than one position very well.
