ACTUAL
POTENTIAL
INTRODUCTION
Frank Fidler is a 6-7 player with excellent scoring skills. He began his college career with Omaha, where he played for three seasons, consistently increasing his numbers (20.1 points and 6.3 rebounds). At the end of the 23-24 season, after being named to the First Team of the Summit League, he entered the transfer portal and accepted the offer from Michigan State. This certainly presents a more challenging stage to showcase his undeniable skills.
PHYSICAL
Frank Fidler is certainly not a lightning bolt. In modern basketball it is almost a certain shock to see a small forward with so little visible muscle mass, an atypical physique for today’s basketball. He is certainly lacking something in short movements and lateral shifts when put under pressure. However, he is a well-proportioned player and in line with the measurements of the role he plays on the court, both as a forward and as a guard.
OFFENSIVE PHASE
Frank Fidler is definitely a great three-point shooter where he prefers the catch and shoot coming out of the screens or in a tow. Not much from the dribble. From long range, with the Omaha jersey he offered a solid 36% on well over 4 attempts per game with a significant improvement compared to the 22-23 season (28% on 2.7 attempts). He has excellent game vision and uses this ability to be present at the right time in the right place and to provide excellent extra passes (2.6 assists). In the dribbling phase something is definitely missing, an unsafe movement that often leads him to ruin good situations. In his movements he prefers the right side of the body. It offers excellent offensive solutions of a good level also with regards to movements approaching the basket with shoulders and has excellent free throw percentages (85% on 7.7 attempts per game.)
DEFENSIVE PHASE
Frank Fidler thanks to his excellent sense of position is an excellent rebounder, despite not being very physically fit he often anticipates opponents and teammates to position himself in the best possible way taking 6.3 rebounds. He is a player who is not too mobile and can certainly be useful in team defense. If faced 1 vs 1 he can have difficulty against almost all the more physical guards and wings, not having enough foot speed to allow him to hold for more than a few dribbles.
IMPROVED AREAS
Frank Fidler is a good prospect who can bring a lot of points to the team. Competitiveness, sense of position and a very polite hand make him an excellent player capable of playing even at the highest levels. In physical leagues he may need time to settle in but certainly in a physically simpler context he could immediately become a leading player. The season with Michigan State will be fundamental to understand his real level in a more competitive context compared to Omaha.
