INTRODUCTION
Dayvion McKnight is a left-handed point guard (combo guard) from Xavier. After three seasons at Western Kentucky, he transferred to Xavier for his senior season. He was named to the All-C-USA First Team in 2022 and the Second Team in 2023. His role changed from his time at WKU, transitioning from an offensive leader to the second option behind scorer Quincy Olivari. He has managed to improve his offensive efficiency while halving his turnovers. Specifically, his three-point shooting percentage improved from 33.9% to 37.2%, turnovers decreased from 3.3 to 1.6, and assists increased from 3.8 to 4.8 in 34 minutes of play. For a player with his characteristics and who often handles the ball, the turnover statistic is significant. Defensively, he is effective and can defend well; however, caution is needed with switches on pick-and-rolls where he may struggle. His steals stat is good (1.5 per game). Offensively, in addition to significant improvements in three-point shooting, he can attack the rim well, although in Xavier’s offensive system, he rarely uses the pick-and-roll (unlike his season at WKU). He may struggle when penetrating and facing rim protectors, often making off-balance passes in the air.
