INTRODUCTION
Deivon Smith is a modern point guard, characterized by pace and athleticism. He is currently in his fourth season in college. As a 4-star prospect, he chose Mississippi State for his freshman year, then transferred to Georgia Tech for two years before finishing his senior year at Utah Utes.
His growth has been somewhat hampered by a few too many injuries, which have affected his rhythm and confidence, crucial for a player of his age and skill set.
His weakness has always been his 3-P shooting, a skill in which he has improved this season, shooting at 32.6% (he consistently shot below 27% in previous seasons) – he scores 11.8 points per game.
Standing at 184 cm, Deivon Smith is a player with NBA-level athleticism and highlight-reel plays. In transition, he can be unstoppable, almost resembling a running back. At times, he tends to go out of rhythm, and sometimes he tends to lose the ball a bit too much (2.4 in an average of 27.3 minutes).
With his athleticism, he can contribute to rebounding (5.6 per game). His playmaking is good, although there is room for improvement, despite averaging 6.1 assists.
Defensively, his physical abilities make him an important asset, although he may risk mismatches against opponents with more physicality.
During the season, he managed to record a triple-double in just 32 minutes against Stanford. His talent is evident to everyone; he just needs to find consistency and accumulate more game experience.
