INTRODUCTION

Jan Zidek is a center from the Czech Republic playing for Chattanooga. He spent four seasons at Pepperdine, recording 13.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 29 minutes during his junior year (the only year he started in the starting five). In his final college season, he transferred to Chattanooga, where he was named Southern Conference Sixth Man of the Year and made the Southern Conference All-Tournament Second Team, finishing with 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

At Chattanooga, and generally throughout his college experience (except for his junior year), he was mainly used as a backup center off the bench. Zidek is a dynamic stretch five who should not be judged solely by his statistics. He is capable of doing a lot of the dirty work on the court. Especially on the offensive end, he is never static but always in motion to create passing lanes, set screens, and get open. He has a good three-point shot, with 34.6% at Chattanooga on 4.1 attempts per game.

Defensively, besides holding his own in one-on-one situations in the low post, he can also keep up with a couple of slides against opposing guards. However, his major weakness is rebounding, which is quite low for a player of his size. Projecting his averages (3.4 rebounds in 21.5 minutes) to 36 minutes, he would only grab 5.7 rebounds. Additionally, he is not a rim protector (only 0.1 blocks per game).

Editor’s Note: He signed for the 2024/2025 season with Class Sant Antoni Ibiza (LEB Silver).
